Grand Slam Sunday is here

The so called “Big Four” are getting ready for Sunday’s decisive battles. Three teams still have the chance to win the League Title and Sunday’s games will be crucial. Manchester United are playing at home against Liverpool, and they are curently leading the table with 3 points above Arsenal, while Chelsea will look to take advantage of their home field and secure a win against Arsenal which will put them 2nd in the league as they are now 2 points below Arsenal.

There are 8 matchdays to be played until the end of the season and finnaly we have had a good season ! Last years was all to predictable, first it was Chelsea for 2 seasons in a row and last year it was United. This year however 3 teams are separated by only 5 points and at this point it’s anyone’s game. It is getting down to it and is going to be very exciting to watch.
Some might say that these games have a psychologycal impact on the players and they sometimes play trying to prevent the opposition from scoring and playing a safe game rather than attempting to score goals and take risks, but I feel as this weekend’s games will be too important and it’s now or never. Let’s take a look at each team and try to make a short preview of the games :
MANCHESTER UNITED vs. LIVERPOOL
The current leaders, United are a strong team and they are more motivated than ever. Cristiano Ronaldo has been in exceptional form this season and is currently leading in the top scorers charts with 24 goals, Tevez is United’s second best scorer with 11 goals, and he is known for scoring important goals and being a big-match player. He scored the only goal at Anfield in december when United won against Liverpool 1-0.
Liverpool need to win to keep their hopes for a 4th place finish. They have had a poor season up to date, but on-form strkier Fernando Torres will be looking to add to his tally of 20 goals in the league this season. Liverpool are playing well in the Champions League but they need to get a good result at Old Traffor this Sunday if they want another taste of Champions League football next season.
CHELSEA vs. ARSENAL
So far Avram Grant has lost the most important games for Chelsea this season, he lost in the League Cup Final against Tottenham, he lost to Burnley in the FA Cup, he even lost the first game against Arsenal. In december, the gunners won thanks to a goal from former “blues” player, William Gallas. It was 1-0 but it could have been more, Arsenal were by far, playing the best football in England in that period. A win for Chelsea on Sunday could put them ahead of Arsenal in the table and by the end of the season, with a series of good results they could even win the title.
Things have definitely changed for Arsenal since the first time these 2 sides have met earlier this season. They are now suffering in terms of quality and flow of their game. The injury of Eduardo shocked everyone and players are somewhat afraid. I am willing to say that Arsenal will win this game, because they need it more than Chelsea, Arsenal were on top most of the season and have lost a single game this season, but a series of draws allowed United to surpass them in the league and Arsenal are now struggling to find their form and regain the lead. Who knows maybe Sunday they will have the chance, but a good performance and of course a win are necessary.
