More surprisingly is that Robert Green and Paul Robinson were both also left out in favour of James, Kirkland and Carson while Wheater of Boro gets a chance too. Defoe deserves his call-up for 5 goals for Pompey while Owen and Crouch will probably be sweating of their places come the weekend.
