Well Foster didn't make it in in the end, which was a surprise. Capello's named a provisional squad of 30 that will be cut down to 23 after the weekend's games. Beckham's back in and should get his 100th cap while Walcott has also been recalled for the first time since the 2006 World Cup. More surprisingly is that Robert Green and Paul Robinson were both also left out in favour of James, Kirkland and Carson while Wheater of Boro gets a chance too. Defoe deserves his call-up for 5 goals for Pompey while Owen and Crouch will probably be sweating of their places come the weekend.

Provisional squad:
Goalkeepers: James (Portsmouth), Carson (Aston Villa), Kirkland (Wigan)
Defenders: Bridge (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea), Johnson (Portsmouth), Terry (Chelsea), Brown (Man Utd), Lescott (Everton), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Wheater (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Tottenham), Upson (West Ham)
Midfielders: Barry (Aston Villa), Young (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), J Cole (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Man Utd), Downing (Middlesbrough), Jenas (Tottenham)
Forwards: Walcott (Arsenal), Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Rooney (Man Utd), Owen (Newcastle), Defoe (Portsmouth).
