Pizarro: Revenge is our destiny

David Pizarro thinks it is “destiny” that Roma will wreak revenge for their Old Trafford humiliation.

The Giallorossi were thrashed 7-1 in the quarter-finals last season and have drawn Manchester United again in that tie.

“I love having the chance to make up for past mistakes and this really is destiny. We are ready for this occasion, as so many of us were waiting for it.”

In truth the two teams have already crossed paths this season in the group phase with a 1-0 defeat in England and a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico.

“The sides know each other pretty well by now. The most important thing is that everyone in our squad knows that what happened last year can never happen again,” continued the Chilean.

“After that quarter-final we considered our mistakes and have grown a great deal. I think that up until now the results of that process have been evident.”

Pizarro also took the opportunity to categorically deny British newspaper reports that when they were 6-0 down Roma’s players begged United to stop going forward.

“That is completely untrue. I was playing in that game and we never asked anything of anyone. We are disappointed in this attitude, but will take that into consideration as well when it comes to match day.”

Pizarro is battling with Alberto Aquilani for a starting spot against Milan in the big Serie A match this evening.
