Coventry City are to sign Denmark Under-21 goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on loan from Man City until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper has agreed terms to become Chris Coleman’s first signing and the deal is expected to be completed later today.

Coventry boss Coleman switched targets from Man Utd keeper Ben Foster to Schmeichel when Sir Alex Ferguson was forced to call the England international up to his first-team squad following an injury and suspension crisis at Old Trafford.

Schmeichel is expected to go straight into the Sky Blues squad for Saturday’s home game against Sheffield Wednesday.

The son of legendary keeper Peter has previously been on loan at Darlington, Bury, Falkirk and Cardiff and made seven senior appearances for City at the start of the campaign before losing his place to Joe Hart.
