Freddy Adu scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute and the United States Under-23s beat Panama 1-0 in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying soccer on Thursday.

The United States will finish group play on Saturday against Honduras for a berth in the semifinals.

Panama, which cannot advance from Group A, will play Cuba on Saturday. If Cuba loses or draws, the U.S. automatically advances. Honduras already has clinched a spot in the semifinals.

Adu scored after Panama goalkeeper Jose Calderon received a yellow card for tripping Josmer Altidore during a breakaway scoring chance. The 18-year-old Adu also scored against Cuba.
