Ramos getting his ‘weapons’ ready

Juande Ramos believes he needs to ‘get the weapons out’ to ensure his Tottenham side overturn their Uefa Cup deficit against Dutch champions PSV in Eindhoven on Wednesday evening, and the Spaniard admits he would be concerned if the last 16 tie goes to extra time.

As stated by Setanta Sports, Spurs trail to a Jefferson Farfan goal from the first leg in North London last week, and Ramos fielded a strong XI to face the talented and pacey Eredivisie side.

“We need to play with maximum intensity,” said a focused Ramos in The Independent.

“We need to get our weapons out. Tottenham always play to win, whether we start 0-0, winning 1-0 or losing 1-0. We have no other type of football or concept of playing. We are going to play like we always do and nothing more.”

Ramos has won the competition for the last two seasons with former club Sevilla and admits a hat-trick is what drives him on, but he does admit that to achieve success a third time in a row would be unlikely.

“I would like to walk out for a third time [in the final],” he added. “But it is not a normal thing to even win it twice. In every competition there are moments when it is very tight and can go either way. The worry will be if it goes to extra time.”

Midfielder Didier Zokora may not be considered one of the ‘weapons’ Ramos refers to, but the Ivorian praised his boss’s knowledge and has faith in the Spaniard’s tactical nous.

“He [Ramos] is very strong tactically,” the midfielder said. “But for us we have to score a goal and that is the tactic.”

Zokora also backed the strike partnership of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane to score the goals that could recover the club’s European hopes.

“They have scored a lot of goals and are the leaders of the team in every game,” Zokora continued.

“It is because they want to help with goals. We need help in this tie and they are ready and want to help. They are one of the best partnerships in The Premier League. When they play the game is so easy for Spurs. They are good players together, they are very clever players.”

“It’s not telepathy, they are intelligent players and when they play together they play well.”
