Athletico to sell Reyes

Atletico de Madrid have started to look for a new club for José Antonio Reyes after Javier Aguirre told the board that he does not count on the forward.

According to Goal.com, Since signing from Arsenal for €12m last summer, Reyes has completed just one game for Los Colchoneros this season and has failed to live up to the expectations that the club placed in him.

Aguirre’s future may also be in doubt at the club, but even if he were to leave then the player is still likely to be sold as he has not impressed during his time at Vicente Calderón.

Reyes’ signed a four-year contract with Atlético when he joined and selling him on could be an expensive operation as there may not be many takers who could match his current wages.

After spending last season on loan at Real Madrid, the Sevillian winger chose to join their city rivals rather than sign a permanent deal with Los Merengues.

Whether Aguirre sanctioned the move is not known, but it is clear that the Mexican coach has not been impressed as he has only started Reyes in ten matches this term.

Atlético are said to be prepared to cut their losses and off-load the player for €5m and a move to an Italian club has been mooted as they want him to go abroad.

Reyes would refuse a return to English football as he did not settle during his time at Arsenal, despite producing some encouraging performances on the pitch.
