Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen is set to join Barcelona’s star-studded squad next season, according to reports in Spain.

As stated by Setanta Sport, Broadcaster TV3 claims Barca have reached an agreement with the Denmark international which will see him swap Andalucia for Catalunya on a three-year deal. However, Poulsen still has one year to run on his contract with Sevilla and the two clubs must now come to an agreement if the reports are accurate.

The 28-year-old has impressed in a holding midfield role since his move to Spain in the summer of 2006, winning the Uefa Cup, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup in his first season under Juande Ramos. Having joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Schalke, it remains to be seen whether the Andalucians will hold out for the entirety of his €10 million (£7.7 million) release clause or cut their losses on the player.

It appears as though Barcelona president Joan Laporta has moved quickly to compensate for Edmilson’s likely departure in the summer, whilst doubts remain over Rafael Marquez’s future at Camp Nou.
