Best Midfielder in English Premier League, Hard to say…

With Fabregas’s latest sensational goal against AC Milan in the Champion’s League quarter final, Lampard’s return from injury and Gerrard’s return to form, both home and away from the EPL, the question must be asked… Who is the best midfielder in the EPL today?
The strongest argument would be for Cristiano Ronaldo, with his quick feet, quick precise passing and the ability to turn the defender the opposite way almost every time, but if you didn’t count him in the race, then who would win the title? The key players would be Gerrard, Fabregas, and Lampard. But, throughout the 07/08 some midfielders have shown key attributes then could count them in for the title as well.

For example, David Bentley of the Blackburn Rover has set up and scored more goals than any other player on his side, as well as a strong candidate for a national team call up. And then there’s Elano, an attacking midfielder for Manchester City. Started with an absolute ripper of a form in the first third of the season then dropped off slightly, but is starting to rekindle that form. His free-kick style and powerful strike has made him a top asset to Sven Eriksson’s side that has improved from last season dramatically… possibly from the arrival of Elano maybe? And from Chelsea, Michael Ballack. Started off a little slow this season, trying to find a permanent first team spot, and a niggling injury not helping his chances either. But with injury to Lampard earlier this season, and other injuries to players, Ballack found the first team spot and took full advantage. 4 Goals in 7 starts, and an assist, Ballack is growing in confidence and presses forward to support the strikers with a superb mindset.
So, with all that in mind, it’s not so nail-in-the-coffin certain that Ronaldo is by far the best midfielder in the league. He definitely has a few other players to keep in mind to keep his title… Just something to think about?
