Barcelona’s sucess in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Celtic comes with a big cost; superstar Messi will be out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

Lionel Messi, on Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Scottish side Celtic, suffered a re-occurence of a thigh injury that will leave him out for six weeks, almost deifintely missing the Quarter-Final leg of the Champions League and also possibly missing the Semis if Barcelona reach the stage. He will also definitely miss awhole host of La Liga matches, which may seriously dent Barcelona’s hopes of major success this season

The man who is considered second best in the world was rested for a game in which Athletico Madrid beat Barcelona 4-2, in preparation for a game in Europe, which was won.

The injury is claimed to be most likely a re-occurence of a similar injury which has been holding back the 20 year-old for the past three years, it also sidlined him for the festive period. Barcelona manager, Rijkaard later said “He is an important player for us, and this is a sad moment for the players”; sadness which was shown by Puyol whom claimed “The doctors spoke and said their was a risk of injury and you put pressure on him to play, saying that he always has to play”, which was a response to the Spanish media’s despair at his resting against Athletico.
