Sevilla aim to win against Fenerbahce

Sevilla and Fenerbahce are both aiming for their first Champions League quarter-final spot when they meet in tonight’s second round second leg tie.

With the Turkish team holding a 3-2 advantage from the first game in Istanbul two weeks ago, a low scoring one-goal victory at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium will suffice for Sevilla.

Sevilla, which won the UEFA Cup the last two seasons, has recently recovered its panache following the upheaval caused by midfielder Antonio Puerta’s death in August and coach Juande Ramos’ departure to Tottenham in October.

However, Sevilla suffered its first defeat in six league matches when, with several key players rested, it lost 2-1 at struggling Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.

Coach Manolo Jimenez is sure to start Luis Fabiano, who leads the Spanish League scoring charts with 19 goals this season but played just the second half in La Coruna, along with strike partner Frederic Kanoute.

Fenerbahce also presented a much-changed side for Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Ankaragucu, a result which cost it the chance to take the lead in the Turkish league.

Three-time winner Roberto Carlos has been denied the chance of a Spanish return due to a leg injury suffered during the first leg.
