Real Madrid will be without Dutch winger Arjen Robben for between three to six weeks with a sprained ankle.

The former Chelsea ace was on the end of an horrendous challenge from Quique Alvarez in Real’s 3-2 weekend win over Recreativo.

Alvarez had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes when he was dismissed in a game that also saw two other players shown red cards.

Although Robben carried on for following the challenge he was eventually forced out of the action and replaced by Higuain.

It has now been confirmed Robben has indeed sprained his left ankle, ruling him out of Real Madrid’s clash with Roma on Wednesday.

Robben also certain to miss crucial upcoming league games against Espanyol, Deportivo and Valencia as Real look to retain their Liga title.
