Dimitar Berbatov insists he’s desperate to stay at Tottenham to win more trophies.

The Bulgarian striker scored a penalty in Sunday’s Carling Cup final as his side claimed a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Wembley to clinch their first piece of silverware since 1999. Berbatov has frequently been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane but the Spurs talisman is now focused on achieving more success domestically and in Europe.

He said in the Evening Standard: “I am here, I want to win things and hopefully this is the first of many for me. It means a lot to beat Chelsea, they are a fantastic team. When the final whistle blew it was an indescribable feeling. Everyone was happy and it was great to see so many smiles. It’s a major trophy and we wanted European football again. This is our moment, but on Tuesday we start again. We have important games ahead of us. We have big goals ahead of us.”

Berbatov also hailed the impact of manager Juande Ramos and believes the Spaniard can bring plenty more glory to White Hart Lane. Ramos won consecutive UEFA Cups and the Copa del Rey in two seasons at Sevilla before coming to England, and has already ended Spurs’ trophy drought within four months of taking over from Martin Jol.

“The manager is a winner and he knows how to win things,” he added. “This is his first trophy and I hope it’s the first of many.”
