Calderon gets Real-istic

Ramon Calderon has finally admitted that signing Kaka or Cristiano Ronaldo is an impossibility for Real Madrid and stated his belief that his club has a better squad than Barcelona.

The Bernabeu supremo was answering readers’ questions in an online session for 20 Minutes and was more open than he has been when asked about several delicate subjects in the past.

On the prospect of signing either Kaka, who he promised to take to Madrid in his pre-election manifesto, and Ronaldo, Calderon admitted neither would join.

“Signing Kaka is impossible,” he said. “I would not ask for either of those two players.

“It appears to me that to talk of impossibilities only causes frustration.”

Calderon then stated he is confident Madrid are stronger than Barcelona and that they will not need to make many changes to personnel during the summer.

“Madrid have a better team than Barca. We are not missing anyone really, so we will make very few changes for next season,” he stated.

Coach Bernd Schuster’s job is also safe, even if Madrid fail to win the Spanish title or the Champions League this season.

“Without doubt Schuster will continue even if we do not win anything,” the president added.

Calderon concluded that he thinks Schuster has produced a more entertaining side that Fabio Capello; in a turn of events that justifies the Italian’s removal last year.

“He did not win the title, the players did,” he stated.

“The great difference between Schuster’s team and Capello’s is that now the team plays better.”
