Keane: Berbatov reminds me of Cantona

Robbie Keane has likened strike partner Dimitar Berbatov to former Manchester United star Eric Cantona, and believes the Bulgarian could be Tottenham’s key man in Sunday’s final.

Dimitar Berbatov

Robbie Keane says his standout memory of the old Wembley Stadium is the 1996 FA Cup Final. Manchester United took the honours that day with a 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Eric Cantona got the winner that day, and now Keane is looking for Spurs’ very own Cantona to bring it home this Sunday against Chelsea in the Carling Cup final.

Legendary Venue

This will be Keane’s and Tottenham’s first ever trip to the new Wembley and the striker is looking to make his mark on this famous venue. “When I was living in Ireland I would watch the TV and dream of playing there,” he said. “The cup final when Cantona scored is the one that stands out.

Berbatov Style

Berba has Cantona’s style,” the Irish international continued. “To be mentioning him in the same bracket as Cantona is something special as he was one of the best. But Berba certainly has that style. If you have Berba in your team you have a chance,” Keane added.

“We compliment each other in the way we play and we read each other quite well. It’s the best partnership I’ve had — definitely,” the Irishman added of the 36 goals they already have between them this season. “He can come short, go long, holds the ball up. His assists are also unbelievable.”
