Getafe assistant manager Luis Milla believes that they have a good chance of taking a close-fought victory over Real Madrid when the two teams meet in a capital city derby on Sunday.

Getafe go into the game against Madrid on the back of a convincing 3-0 win over AEK Athens in the UEFA Cup and Milla believes they have a chance of inflicting a sixth defeat of 2008 on Bernd Schuster’s side.

“We are going to win by a small margin,” Milla told Marca.

“It is necessary to think about how to work the game and the defensive concepts. When we have the ball, we need to keep hold of it and pass it precisely. But it is necessary to remember that we play against Madrid in the Bernabéu and that they have excellent home form.”

Milla played for Madrid for seven years between 1990-1997 and has fond memories of his time at the club.

“I have fantastic memories of my time in Madrid. On Sunday evenings the Bernabéu smelled of football. It was a temple. Opposition players had to be mentally prepared to play there and it was a very special time.”

Finally, Milla was asked about the absences of on-loan Madrid midfielders Ruben de La Red and Esteban Granero from the Getafe team on Sunday due to a clause in their loan agreement.

“It is a pain for them. They suffer because they cannot appear in the Bernabéu, to play against the club that has nutured them and for whom they could possibly be first-team players in the future,” he concluded.
