Schaaf promises attacking display in Braga

Schaaf has made it clear that he won’t take the threat of SC Braga lightly, despite a 3-0 first leg win for the Germans.

He told the official club website, “Anyone who may think he can take it easy could be in for quite a shock when he sees just how much chasing the ball he is going to have to do.”

“The game against Ajax last year was the best example of that,” he added, referring to the 3-1 second-leg defeat after a 3-0 first leg win.

“We are going to stick to our guns and play attacking football. Firstly, it’s not in our nature to pack the defence, and secondly, doing so would give Braga the opportunity to employ their strengths - they are a strong side going forward.”

General manager Klaus Allofs added, “Games are a whole lot easier when you control the tempo and have the bulk of the possession. There is always a danger when that’s not the case and we have all seen what seemed like clear first leg results in Europe being turned around. I would be very disappointed if we made this one difficult for ourselves.”

Werder are without star pupil Diego for this one, although Hugo Almeida should line up in attack as normal.
